HONEYGUIDE RANGER CAMP
Ranger Camp offers guests’ game drives in new open game viewing vehicles in the early morning and late afternoon/evening. Late afternoon and evening drives include sunset drinks, with views of the breath-taking Yellowwood Gorge where the road twists down the escarpment between cliffs, waterfalls and forests. Larger game frequently sighted in the reserve includes elephant, rhino, lion and hippo. In between meals and drives, use your photography skills to watch and capture through your lens the game and birdlife while relaxing by the pool or during a guided walking safari through the deep bush, accompanied by an experienced, armed ranger; it can be hot work, but it’s very exciting – seeing the animals from a vehicle just doesn’t seem to compare.
Guests awake at first light to the sound of beating drums. The next sound it that of footsteps as waiters serve tea coffee or fruit juice in the tents. A morning safari in an open game drive vehicle led by an experienced guide and tracker for about 3 hours traversing part of the large Manyeleti concession. During the drive, you will stop for tea or coffee and light refreshments.
On return to camp, you will have time to freshen up before enjoying a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, guests are invited to join a short foot safari to explore the small wonders of the bush with an emphasis on the abundant bird, insect and plant life in the proximity of the camps. Guests may also choose to relax at the pool, browse through the small library or retire to their tents.
The afternoon begins with a three-course lunch served in the dining area. After lunch, guests will have time to return to the tents to collect their jackets, cameras and binoculars in preparation for the afternoon game drive. The afternoon game drive will take about 3 hours. Guests are reminded to take warm clothing as the drive continues into the night enabling guests to experience the sounds of the night and affording a view of the nocturnal animals.
During the afternoon game drive, guests will stop at suitable spot for sundowners with full bar and light refreshments.
RANGER CAMP TO MANTOBENI
After another exhilarating activity, enjoy breakfast before your transfer by road, via the scenic Panorama Route, to the Manyeleti Private Game Reserve.
The Panorama Route is a scenic route along Mpumalanga Escarpment with Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world, central to it. One breathtaking view after another – that's South Africa's famous Panorama Route, where you'll experience mountains, sky, forests and the truly impressive Blyde River Canyon.
Bordering the Kruger National Park and situated between the Timbavati and the Sabi Sand Reserves, lies the Manyeleti Game Reserve which encompasses 23,000 hectares of land – sharing an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. The Manyeleti Reserve is home to our two tented camps – Mantobeni Camp & Khoka Moya Camp. Each camp offers breath-taking wildlife experiences, including the Big Five, superb cuisine and service excellence. Under the profound knowledge and experience of our rangers and trackers, you will experience 2 daily game drives; morning & evening. This allows you the opportunity of 2 varied experiences during your time with Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps. As we are only one of 3 lodges on the Manyeleti Game Reserve, we are extremely proud of our game drives for the experience our guests receive and for the unique fact that you will not sight many other vehicles / persons whilst on your game drive.
Mantobeni Camp is designed to reflect Hemingway’s Africa. Mantobeni Camp is more of a remote bush camp, set in a grove of Tamboti trees. Its free-standing bedroom tents are set on wooden platforms, with roll-up walls and a run-around terrace, making for a very “up and close-to-nature” feel. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a sunken concrete bath, double shower, his & hers basins and a separate toilet.
The nearby waterhole means you can often see elephants from your room at the nearby waterhole. Leather sofas, a single standing lamp and a stone-built bathtub create a pioneering, colonial atmosphere. The main building, on the other hand, is a decidedly modernist and boxy affair, with earth-coloured walls and columns built around the teak-decked dining area and the narrow pool. Game visiting the nearby watering hole can be seen from the swimming pool deck which adjoins the reception area.
Guests at Mantobeni are taken on game drives in open game viewing vehicles in the early morning and late afternoon/evening. Late afternoon and evening drives include sunset drinks, views over the Mohwareng Hills, and glimpses of nocturnal creatures. Larger game frequently sighted in the reserve includes elephant, rhino, lion and hippo. In between meals and drives, watch the game and birdlife pass by while relaxing by the pool or take a walking safari through the deep bush, accompanied by an experienced, armed ranger; it can be hot work, but it’s very exciting – seeing the animals from a vehicle just doesn’t seem to compare.
DEPART FOR HOME!
After another exciting game viewing activity, you will be transferred from Mantobeni to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport for your onward flight back home.
