In the north of the island, is located the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden commonly known as the Pample mousses Botanical Garden, the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere. We now drive to the Capital, where we will stop at Fort Adelaide, also known as the Citadel, an ancient fortress. Built by the British to defend the port from invading ships, the fort sits on a hill, offering splendid views over the city and its harbour, from there you can see your cruise vessel at docked at Port. After the Citadel we proceed to the local market in Port Louis. The Local market consist of two corners, one of local fruit and vegetable market and on the other side the Handicraft stands, one can find colorful beach pareos, embroidered linen, spices, recycled and stained glass objects, semi-precious stones, wooden sculptures, basketwork, souvenirs made out of coconut, in wood or in glass, as well as a creative range of regional handicraft and cultural traditions from Mauritius, Rodrigues and Madagascar.
